Photoshop Tute 2

Okay so I tried out photoshop for a long time and kinda got the concept but it was a little confusing being my first time using it. I tried doing all sorts of things like adding texts and fiddling around with things and i ended up posting my two that I just used silly fill effects for. Because I had no other idea what to do with them. But I will have a better fiddle around with the photoshop as its much better than paint or just using a basic kodak camera thingy.

Photoshop Tute

Okay so this is the first time I have ever used Photoshop. I have heard of the great things that manifest from its seedy underbelly and that it is one of the greatest programs for so called 'fiddlers' like me. (i.e. fiddlers who get bored very easily) So I have attached my photos onto this page and if you can't see them or you can't clik on them, the best way is to view them via the Photo Gallery and you can see them pretty big. The photos were mainly taken with a sony ericsson k750 except for the Living End picture (#1). A great camera phone may I add compared to my danky little 3 NecE616 phone which has poor quality and somehow refuses to email the pictures. Here is a link to see what the k750 looks like:

i will post the original photos in this blog and then mess around on photoshop with one or two of them to report on what I learnt etc and so forth.

1st Photo

I pen this one under unconventional because the sign says 'roadwork ahead' but...chellooo its this dirty track! You silly nobs...taken with a K750

This one is for high tech. This funny nerdy guy was playing on his PSP portable in a batlab (computerlab, they just sound cooler when you say batlab...) and we asked him to pose for a picture. Who plays on a PSP in a computer lab!!! done with a K750

4th photo
Here is a picture of people I have never met in my life but they seemed to be friends. Good chaps for letting me take the pic. Once again done with a K750

5th Photo
Summer photo. Although it is almost winter, i should probably have a funny picture of my dog sitting on a lounge chair sipping on a mocktail lol this one was taken with the K750 out on the pool deck of Wet'n'Wild of course the best place to visit in the summer.

6th Photo
This pic is relating to News the only sort of picture we had in the K750, once again brilliant quality! This was actually a picture of a news story that happened at our school. Some retards got the passwords and found all the answers to our tests. So thats what our year legel is known for. Fantastic.NOT! Anyways heres the front page of the bulletin.

Chatting on the Internet

Classically I love good ole MSN Messenger and have used it since my god the beginning of time. I only really remember it getting so popular in the year 2000 when i was in year 8 at High School and it was the hottest thing going around. Amazingly it still is and I have built so many great last friendships and relationships with people I know.

Its great because you can do more than just chatting, by playing games, seeing a persons name change to something funny or sad or just ineresting, seeing them pop up their picture or you can send files to see the latest guitar they just bought or a photo of some random hottie they snapped up on the weekend lol Okay so its not like that but pretty much I find MSN great to really get to know your friends away from a social environment and you also find that they will spill the beans a bit more the net than they would in person. Its great for organising things or just asking someone a question instead of spending money by calling them and things like that. Plus the nudge button is of course my favourite :P

Back in the day I was a fan of yahoo chat where you dont go on there to chat with your friends but to chat to random people and you can even go into rooms that are themed. At the time I was very much into Buffy the Vampire Slayer (this was around about 1998-1999) and I would go and chat about my favourite tv shows. It was a very basic chat applet back then and the most fun was just using the really basic emoticons that were around or *sally slaps mark in the face with a fish* or *brooke does a dance* was about the most entertaining thing. It was very basic no file sharing or pictures and privacy is well respected, no profiles so it was just an entertaining thing to talk to people. Not as exciting as MSN.

I found an ad on TV for Hotel Habbo. Which looked pretty interesting but its basically this huge chatting network where you can build you own rooms and chat to friends, or chat to random people and you can purchase things to put in your rooms like furniture and drink machines. The graphics are really second rate about as good as lego men in the sega era but its a different approach to talking to people. The controls were really difficult to decipher and there wasn't any real excitement in it as you were too frustrated trying to figure out the commands as the whole info rundown was a lame attempt at telling you about the place.

Microsoft Excel Tute task

I have to admit I hardly ever use Excel. The only time I really had was to work out a payment plan for friends of ours to go on a holiday. One column using my mates names and the other if they had paid or not. So really not al that productive but I found it pretty easy to use. Although the course reader made it sounds a little hectic and not exactly how I would have put it. I found the only problem I had was the 'macro' button bit. I had no idea what it was or really what it did but I found it all too confusing.

I found that the ways in the reader were very much different to the ways that I would have used excel although I did get through it. I wasn't there to do the excel task at the tutorial as my car was having one of its many moments but at home I fiddled with it for a bit longer and found that it can actually do all of my mathematics for me! Hurrah! as I am mathematically challenged. Not only can you use it for graphs and data entry but all sorts of different things. So I actually DID learn something in this week. Most excellent!

My Thoughts

So its been 12-13 weeks that I have been studying Communication and Digital Technologies and I feel that this course is defiantly a very broad kind of course, and was probably suited towards people who have had no prior interest in CDT previously.

Even though I found some of the movies to be well...kinda boring and really didnt stimulate me in the slightest, I did find that they were a fantastic avenue to explore when it came to understanding the criteria. In the movies it explained the things we were talking about in lectures and just gave you a better general understanding of the whole course, albeit a few yawns.

The best part would probably have to be the tutorials and talking about the course with others. Just coming up with theories and conspiracies and having a general talk about something we use almost every day. I thought the tutorials were nice and cruisy instead of the hustle and bustle that tutorials present when you are in another class. And although we didnt talk much as a group it was a great way to get one on one with the tutor and get that personal approach to your essay or to your blog. We had alot of help with different links and things and it was the first time I had ever really used the Learning@griffith site. Alot of classes only use L@G site to say all of two lines about something they have repeated over and over in class that its almost etched into your brain its ridiculous. So I give many kudos to Adam Muir for maintaining the site and putting up lecture notes and funny doodads for us to peruse over in our stressful times.

I found the test initially too hard to handle with sooooo many sites and links for research that it all became too much, but the test in itself wasn't all that difficult. I'm not saying I aced it but it wasn't as hard as I thought i was going to be, and I know the perils of being an uber fast reader resulted in me being first to finish...hhmm...maybe not such a good thing but I tried my darndest.

I found the content in the lectures were great in correspondance to the tutes and overall just stimulating ideas for us to think about, and I comprehended it well after it was backed up with visual evidence in the movies.

Theres nothing that I would really change. Maybe the emphasis on studying each week so it doesn't pile up come exam time. To destress the students that it really isn't as tedious as first thought. The blog idea is a great one what with the blogger sites and myspace these days. I overall enjoyed the subject and stuck it out! Thanks to everyone involved I found it most enjoyable, although maybe some better movies to show :P

Thanks a billion!
